Unit i Press is a tiny little letterpress design studio in Chicago.

After many years of soul-searching and a series of (very) long deliberations, I walked away from my office-bound career to start Unit i Press in 2007 to focus my life on what I love doing the most - I love making letterpress.

I love how it feels when the plate drives the design into the paper and the ink presses into the piece to create expressions that only letterpresses can make. The sheer delight in seeing my designs coming alive, embossed onto fresh-cut paper, compels me to find inspiration in the things I encounter every day, uncover themes from memorable events in my life, or discover hidden motif in other works of art I find. Everything in my life these days seems to start and end with inspirations for new designs and be driven by the desire to experiment and to expand my understanding of letterpresses.

In all this, the source of my biggest reward is in observing how others react to my work, with my card in their hands, tracing the design with their fingers, and seeing how it brings a little smile onto their lips. I'd like to think that it helps fills their day with a moment of delightful wonder…or perhaps a lingering sense of re-discovery.
